Pro Sports Wrap - by Sam Ruesler

Top Olympic Moments

August 12th 2012 15:23
The Summer Games in London are closing down today, so I decided to present some of my favorite moments from the last couple weeks. Most will probably be similar to everyone elses but if not give me your own opinions. The basketball gold medal match is going on right now but that wouldn't make the list anyways, its not '92. These are in no particular order.

Semifinal of women's beach volleyball between USA and Brazil- I've already talked about this so I wont go into more detail, it was just awesome. Also throw in Walsh-Jennings and May-Treinor winning a 3rd gold.

Missy Franklin- everything she did, even when she didn't win (wasn't often) she was smiling and having a great time. The whole women's swimming dominated for USA and she was just a young girl along for the ride while becoming the new face of American swimming. Michael Phelps becoming the all time medal holder is great but everyone new that was going to happen.

US Women's Soccer- I didn't see the game against Canada but from what I've seen and heard it was a classic. The Americans were down 3 different times and came back each time. There were questionable calls but they went both way. Then our women went out and won the gold yet again with Hope Solo making same great saves. Congrats ladies.

Usain Bolt (particularly 100m)- He is a cocky man, but can't really blame him. He is a legand in sprinting already. He's done things no one else has ever done, winning the 100 and 200 back to back Olympics. He's won 6 gold in the last 2 Summer Games. The 100 was great because of all the guys in it. There is a reason sooo many people attended the 10 second event; the top 4 times ever were in the field.

US Women's Gymnastics- this was memorable for the good (Team Gold and Gabby Douglas all around) and the bad (Gabby Douglas individual events and Jordyn Weiber getting screwed out of the all around final). There were also the horrible rules for tie breakers that didn't make any sense. Watching the parents was entertaining too and then the heartbreak for the girls when they failed was great.

Others- US Gold and Silver in the Decathalon, Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius sprinting for South Africa, and Jessican Ennish winning Pentathalon
