Super Bowl XLV
February 7th 2011 11:45
What a game. I remain undefeated in Super Bowl picks in my career- 7-0. This post has several observations about the game.
1. James Jones is a product of the system. You could also say this about Jordy Nelson, but it is Jones who consistently drops passes that could go for 6. Rodgers had to utilize such scrubs as Brett Swayne when Driver went down. Rodgers would have had a 70 percent completion percentage and much more yards had his receivers held onto the ball.
2. Imagine the Packers at full strength next year. They were missing Nick Barnett, JerMichael Finley, and Ryan Grant in the regular season with Charles Woodson, Sam Shields, and Donald Driver missing significant time during the game.
3. Aaron Rodgers carried the offense on his back. That's why he is now bumped up to best QB in the league. I usually don't like to do stuff after one game, but this was the Super Bowl and Rodgers showed legendary accuracy. This guy is a marksman. I think he eventually has a better career than Brett Favre, but that's a discussion for another time. By the way, I thought that after he completed his second NFL season as a starter.
4. Troy Polamalu cemented his status as the guy that isn't the best defensive player on the Steelers. Sure it was only one game, but it wasn't the deciding factor for me. Ever since last year, I have always said that James Harrison is better than Polamalu. Just ask NFL and MLB Blog writer Aryan von Eicken. Polamalu spend the whole game guessing, which really doesn't work against a great quarterback.
5. The musical acts at this year's Super Bowl sucked. They need to bring in an Eminem or a Nas. Somebody of that kind of caliber. Hudson's national anthem singing was sorely missed this year. Gosh I hate that joke Aguilera.
6. Ike Taylor's contract runs out, and he is a priority for Pittsburgh to re-sign. He is an underrated QB that is marvelous in coverage- especially zone coverage. He put out the best performance of anybody in a Pittsburgh uniform in this Super Bowl. If they don't re-sign him, the secondary will be arguably the worst int he league. Bryant McFadden stinks, William Gay is even worse, and Anthony Madison is not somebody you want as a nickel corner. Taylor is a beast that QB's rarely throw it at because he is Pittsburgh's only good corner. The reason why the Steelers' secondary is so bad? The other 3 corners. One guy can't do it alone.
