Developing new wide receiver statistic
September 11th 2011 14:14
I made a running back stat about a month ago, and I am currently trying to develop a similar one for receivers.
(Yards per Target X 10 from Advanced NFL Stats) - (Deep% from Advanced NFL Stats) - Team AY/A from Pro-Football Reference [TDs/Targets) X 10] Catch Rate/10.
I have collected data from 14 wide receivers and the results are below.
1. Mike Wallace 82.5
2. Mario Manningham 71.4
3. Deoin Branch 70.3
4. DeSean Jackson 68.4
5. Austin Collie 66.0
6. Greg Jennings 65.5
7. Jordy Nelson 65.2
8. Kenny Britt 64.0
9. Wes Welker 62.8
10. Johnny Knox 57.1
11. Anthony Armstrong 52.9
12. Braylon Edwards 54.2
13. Brandon Lloyd 49.2
14. Malcolm Floyd 37.9
I think my statistic is too hard on wideouts who go deep more, and the whole idea was to help out the guys play the short and intermediate game. I guess it's back to the drawing board, but I wanted to keep you guys posted on my initial results.
