2/2011 Early NFL Mock Draft 1-5
February 12th 2011 14:06
1. Carolina Panthers DT Nick Fairley
The Panthers already drafted Brandon LaFell last year, and he and David Gettis have shown some promise. Fairley seems like the pick here. As much as I love AJ Green, the Panthers have more talent at receiver than at defensive tackle. Their defensive tackles are the worst in the league. Fairley is a hard-nosed player that disrupts plays in the backfield. He is the dynamic anchorman that the Panthers need in the middle of their defense.
2. Denver Broncos DE Da'Quan Bowers
Bowers is just as good as Fairley, and he is more explosive. The Broncos need him to compliment Elvis Dumervil. More importantly though, he looks like a solid stopgap run defender. The Broncos could also take DT Marcell Dareus here, but Bowers is too good to pass up on.
3. Buffalo Bills DE Robert Quinn
Buffalo has no pass rushers at all. This is a position that they desperately need to upgrade. Getting a defensive end as explosive as Quinn is a priority that they will be able to fill in this spot.
4. Cincinnati Bengals WR AJ Green
The Bengals almost certainly will not re-sign Terrell Owens, and Ochocinco is n't the guy he used to be. Although it can be argued that the Bengals have more need at other positions, Green is far too talented to pass up on. Besides, he will be another young receiver to add to Shipley. I cannot wait to see Green in action.
5. Arizona Cardinals QB Blaine Gabbert
This draft is based on team needs where they stand at this point. They simply can't afford to move forward with their current quarterbacks. Max Hall and Derek Anderson? Come on. Gabbert is the only quarterback in this class worth a first round pick. He is good enough to be worth a top ten pick. Gabbert is easily the most complete QB in this class, and he has better accuracy than people give him credit for.
