2011 Scouting Reports: Trent Cole, Quintin Mikell, and Brandon Jacobs
February 20th 2011 18:51
Trent Cole DE Philadelphia Eagles
Cole is a beast. Being the seventh best defensive end is no shame when Dwight Freeney, Mario Williams, Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Julius Peppers, and Jared Allen are the guys ahead of you. Cole could rise to fifth in my rankings over Freeney and either Osi or Mario. For now, he is the hardworking yet underrated end on the Eagles. Cole is an incredible pass rusher, but his above average run defense allows him to flourish in both the 4-3 and 3-4.
Quintin Mikell S Philadelphia Eagles
As you have already noticed, I have started off my scouting reports with Eagles' players. Quintin Mikell is the best safety in the league, besides a healthy Troy Polamalu. I know I could be jeered for this, and I can already hear the cries of "Ed Reed" and "Are you High?" in my head. But just hear me out here. Mikell is a ballhawk- a safety's most important trait- and an instinctive player- a safety's second most important trait.
Quintin Mikell excels against the run, but that's not even the best part. Mikell is easily the best coverage safety in the NFL. Ed Reed is the best at racking up INTs, but Mikell is the best at preventing catches. He also breaks up a ton of passes- best in the NFL. Don't leave this guy off your lists fellas. Mikell is a gamer that is underrated, much like fellow teammate and defensive standout Trent Cole.
Brandon Jacobs RB New York Giants
Jacobs is frustratingly- for Giants' fans- inconsistent. That's pretty ironic considering that power rushers are supposed to be extremely consistent. Injuries are a factor, but Jacobs is a guy that will either have a great year or a poor one. Jacobs is easily one of the best goal-line backs in the NFL. I like him slightly more than Ahmad Bradshaw as a player. Brandon Jacobs has huge behavior question marks, especially when you look back at that infamous helmet incident.
